As of June 2009 this place was taken off the tourist destination list. This capitol city was (in 2009) missing necessities like sustainable running water for most parts of the city. Electricity to much of the city was all but nonexistent. National peace in this place is being forcefully enforced by the UNMIL. They have stated that they will not protect individual travelers. This attitude takes it off of the tourist destination list.
The city in it’s state of decline has become more of an open market of non nomadic people in the desert. This city roasts in the hot sun. The streets are lined with people selling and haggling used wares. There is almost nothing to purchase in the city from a store. There are only two furnished supermarkets. The city center, besides these two stores, is almost a ghost town. This place needs some serious work before it can be a tourist location again.
