Sarajevo is the capital city and largest urban center of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Population of Sarajevo city proper is around 304,000 and that of urban ares is around 419,000. It is located in the Sarajevo valley of Bosnia proper and surrounded by the Dinaric Alps. The city is well known for its traditional religious diversity. People of Islam, Catholicism, Judaism and Orthodoxy have coexisted in Sarajevo for centuries. Sarajevo has attracted international attention throughout its history, most recent being the longest siege in modern military history during Bosnian war. Sarajevo was the first city in Europe and second city in the world to have a full-time operational electric tram network running throughout the city, the first being San Fransisco.

Sarajevo lies in the Sarajevo valley, which once housed a large expanse of greenery but gave way to urban expansion and development after WWII. The city is surrounded by heavily forested hills and five major mountains. Many streets and settlements in Sarajevo city are perched on the hillside. The city has a mild continental climate, lying between the climates zones of Central Europe to the north and the Mediterranean to the South. January is the coldest month with an average temperature of -1.3 Celsius and July is the warmest month with an average temperature of 19 Celsius. Modest rain occurs throughout the year with an average of 170 days of rainfall. Sarajevo has a diverse cultural heritage and it has been home to many different religions for centuries. However, today, Sarajevo is primarily a Bosnian Muslim city.

Belgrade, capital and largest city of Serbia, is situated at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers in north central Serbia. With a population of around 1.7 million, Belgrade is the most populous city in the territory of the former Yugoslavia. Belgrade is the second largest city on the Danube River and fourth largest city in Southeastern Europe after Istanbul, Athens and Bucharest. Belgrade, one of the oldest cities of Europe, was discovered by Greeks, founded and named by Celts and awarded city rights by the Romans. Belgrade is the economic hub of Serbia. It is also the major center for scientific, cultural and education activities.
Belgrade has a moderate continental climate with July being the hottest month and December and January being the coldest months with sub-zero temperatures. Belgrade is the most economically developed part of Serbia and is home to the National Bank of Serbia. It is the seat for many multi national corporations such as Unilever, Japan Tobaccos, Microsoft, Motorola and Intel, among other. Belgrade holds several cultural festivals and events including few International festivals. Belgrade is a popular destination for the weekend visitors from Bosnia, Croatia and Slovenia particularly for its vibrant and unrestricted nightlife on the banks of Sava and Danube rivers.
